Grape Diet
What You Should Know About The Grape Diet
Finding out what you need to know about the grape diet isn't just about what someone else has to say, whether they think it’s a great concept or a bad one. Finding what you need to know boils down to asking yourself some questions and then seeking out the answers, while trying to keep an open mind in the process.
Some Questions To Ask - Questions to ask yourself may include any of the following? What are the benefits that a grape diet is supposed to provide? Does a grape diet consist of several foods, with grapes being a significant portion, or is it a mono diet, where grapes and only grapes are to be eaten? What are the nutritional benefits of the grape? Are there any side effects from eating too many grapes at one time? If I eat only grapes, what vital nutritional needs am I not getting? Finally, if a grape diet does indeed cause me to lose weight, what happens once I go off the diet, and how do I keep the weight from coming back?
Nothing Wrong With The Grape Itself - If you can get objective answers to the above questions, you should be in a pretty fair position to determine whether a grape diet is for you. Grapes are a wonderful and healthy food. The question is, is the grape diet just another "fad" diet that some are choosing to run with and others are choosing to make a few bucks from? We do know this much. The grape is a powerful antioxidant as well as a detoxification agent, so in that respect is good for you. It also contains mostly water, so if that's all you eat for a few days, you are going to lose some weight. Also, grapes are chock full of vitamins, more so than many other foods you normally eat in the course of a day.
Cyclical Dieting Is Not Good - When you go off the diet however, the pounds will usually come back. Trying to lose weight for the short term, to fit into an evening gown for a special date as an example, might be all right to do once or twice, but losing and regaining weight constantly can be very bad for one's health. You need to ask yourself if the grape diet is the right approach if you wish to shed pounds permanently.
In One End, Out The Other - Grape seed extract is regarded in some quarters as performing miracles when curing certain body ills and diseases. There is a certain amount of truth in this, but eating grapes, including the seeds, is not the same as ingesting grape seed extract. The digestive system is normally not going to be able to digest the seeds sufficiently or quickly enough for whatever is in them to do any good. The seeds will most likely pass right through.
Some Merit As A Fasting Tool? - We all know that fasting has its benefits. Fasting is usually done for a 24 hour period, though occasionally longer. During a true fasting episode, the only thing we take into our body is water. Fasting gives the body a chance to cleanse and heal itself, and the water of course helps in this, plus keeps us alive and well in the process. One argument for the grape only diet, or grape mono diet, is that the grape, being mostly water itself, will not interfere with the body's self-healing and cleansing process, but unlike water, provides significant amounts of nutrition as well. A grape diet "fast" can go on for several days, presumably with little in the way of ill effects. This is a powerful argument and one worth looking into.
Forget all the claims that a grape diet will make you smarter and more alert (although fasting does seem to help as far as general alertness is concerned), or help prevent strokes, or act as a cancer fighter as well. If the grape diet does nothing more than help you periodically detoxify your body, then it probably has some merit. At least it's better than a diet of coffee and a Twinkie.
